Rayner’s P take - what do you think?

So she’s on her THIRD home! Have to agree with the post - I’m not even surprised by the hypocrisy any more! What do other Landlords think?

You may be right (which actually makes it worse for me!). But who needs to live in THREE homes? She not heard of commuting like the rest of us?

So her main home is in Ashton under Lyme, which I think might be reasonable considered beyond commuting distance from Westminster.

Her second home is the one that comes with the job of being Deputy PM.

The new flat might be something to criticise for if she is keeping it as a holiday home. But there doesn't really seem to be much information about it, if it is unoccupied etc.

The attack that she's 'hiked taxes on family homes' - well she hasn't, no ones family home has had their taxes put up. Second homes have, which has been very successful near me in North Norfolk in putting down house prices.

So push down housing prices so she and her mates can buy them is a success? Interesting take.

A speculative retort is less clever than you think it is.

Cutting house prices so local people can buy the houses,  so the coastal towns have actual populations and arent ghost towns all winter.

She is keeping it as a holiday home. I think that’s where the hypocrisy lies.

I think so. But the question would apply to the second house she owns.

It’s a nothing story to get people wound up 😂 one of them is her property given by virtue of her position in government and she’s only bought a flat.

The headline should read “well paid woman buys flat”.

I dont like her but there is nothing to this news article.

I think the hypocrisy is the point. At a time of a supply crisis she is punishing Landlords - who actually help supply. And at the same time she’s using three properties as a single person.

Well one of the properties is government owned so isn’t for the public and the other is a £700k seaside flat. It’s not like she’s hoovering up affordable housing is it.

Like I said, I despise the woman, but this is a nothing story and getting mad about it is just falling into a trap set by people that want to use our anger for their agenda.

Total non-story. And yeah, one of the homes actually belongs to the Government and is the grace-and-favour of her post (so really more for receiving guests/foreign dignitaries etc).

So essentially she’s bought a flat at the seaside. She might live in it, she might Air BnB it, she might use it as a holiday home.

It’s her money, she can do what she wants with it. Even better if she brings in tighter regulation and has chosen to abide by it herself. Fair do. Actually seems the opposite of hypocritical to me…

Plenty of the Tory politicians who came before her had multiple properties and no one batted an eyelid.

Total non-story to whip up folk who hold prejudices towards her already in my book

It’s funny that I’ve just read about bots from other countries trying to stir up hatred on social media, then you see this post and check their post history where it’s just divisive post after divisive post (posting on a tenants sub saying “I’m a landlord, DeAL wiTH iT!”) and you realise it’s happened again

Mods please will you ban this

If you don’t want to take part in discussion then don’t. But you can’t just ban a post because you don’t like what it says. Such childish behaviour. It’s totally relevant to Landlords what the housing minister does. Take off your blinkers.

One home she lives in, one home provided to her as part of her job, and now a possible holiday home

Why are you bringing this political nonsense to the landlords sub?

Because she’s the housing minister?
