Clarification on visitors

Hi all,

Just signed a contract for a HMO and noticed this in the clause:

“No guests of the Tenants may occupy the Property for longer than one day in one month period without the prior written consent of the Landlord”

Does that mean overnight only? I have a boyfriend who would visit maybe 2/3 times a week but would never stay overnight and would stay in my room with me.

All the bills are included within my rent so I’d be paying for my own.

Are day time guests usually allowed provided they don’t cause a nuisance? Apologies. New to all of this.

It’s because a lot of people rent a place out and the. All of a sudden there are five people living in a room and the landlord can’t be bothered with the hassle that comes along with it. You can have your boyfriend over as much as you like and realistically, they can stay over whenever they like too. It’s just to stop chancers from taking the piss really.

Yes, it's likely that the local council is restricting the number of occupants for fire safety reasons.

Additionally, as "all the bills are included," the landlord is now covering the costs of water, heating, etc,, for two people when the tenancy is for one person.

They also do it because they don't like random people walking around a shared property, which can cause conflicts, worry, and trust issues.

It's mainly staying overnight, someone coming round for a cup of tea is not a large concern.

Perfect. Thank you for the response! Just don’t want to step on anyone’s toes 😅 We’re both very quiet people and know we wouldn’t cause an issue anyway, but the wording is a bit weird so just wanted clarification. Him visiting is a big thing bc I’m autistic and having it as part of my routine helps, but it’d be a couple hours after work etc
