Person claimed to be landlord’s son, then his brother

Attended a viewing. The person said he was the landlord’s son. Then later he said he was the brother. I asked again to double check, he said brother again. Everything else seemed legit, and all communication was through official channels (openrent). Could be as simple as the guy’s dad used to own it then passed it down to the brother, so a simple misspeak.

For next steps, he said to provide full names, emails, and phone numbers of all tenants for reference check, and explicitly said not to make any payments on openrent yet.

Based on all of the above, is there any cause for concern?

No, just make sure you go through Open Rent and insist deposit and first rent is paid to them. They do checks on the landlord and ownership must be proved to them.
