I need to organise the annual gas safety check soon, and I might do a boiler service at the same time. Last time the guy charged £250 for this, which was much higher than I expected. Curious what others pay? The boiler is about 6 years old and in Manchester.
Went through Openrent originally about 5y ago. Was £45ish for annual gas cert, then use same firm directly now, has gone up to £66 this year. (NW London)
If the service just consists of a check and no other work or new parts are required I’d expect to pay about £150, I’m in London.
Gas certifcate £75 Minor boiler service £75 Major boiler service £180
London
Bloody hell. My plumber in Sheffield charged me £125 for the check and a boiler service at the beginning of June, and £15 of that was a missed appointment fee because the tenant forgot and we had to rearrange.
You will get the gas safe check thrown in for free with most boiler service/insurance policies. Most can be had for £200 or under for the year.
In London I use Landlord Certificates and they usually charge like, £75 all inclusive for two appliances for a boiler service and cert. If I wanted a more in depth clean it would be £120. I think they’re usually a bit more expensive like £85 but they do a returning customer discount.
There's no way you're getting your boiler properly cleaned for £120.
I usually book for five or six at a time which is why I get a reasonable deal, and I literally know my gas engineer and chat to them while they’re doing it. There’s truly no need to shit on someone for answering a question.
It really doesn't involve much work. It's about 10 screws, a brush and a hoover or water sprayer.
North East here - we pay £130 for a service and safety check at the same time.
£79 for the two services in Wolverhampton 👌
That's very expensive, my gas guy charges £60 all in for service and CP12 at the same time.
£76 in Sheffield for gas cert and service.
Not all services are equal.
British Gas “service” a boiler by checking the combustion reading.
Some servicing will include stripping it down and replacing probes, gaskets, other minor parts. Perhaps a chemical test of the heating system water and adding inhibitor.
Just as your engineer what they do and why it’s so much
I pay about £150 for a reputable and good company in Bristol
I haven't tried them yet but I came across https://myconstructor.co.uk/ recently which is a lot cheaper than you paid!
I just had an annual gas safety check and it was £50 cash in London (£70 if I paid him by bank transfer)
£21 per month for BG Homecare (landlords cover). Covers gas cert, service plus any additional call-outs and parts for breakdown/issues. Think there’s a £40/50 excess on any repairs. Give tenants the account/phone number and (hopefully) equates to a hassle free life!
Found my guy from Open rent and he charges £100 cert and basic service. It’s only the boiler there are no additional gas appliances which helps.
Also he lives round the corner. This is south London. I suspect if it was a new customer now he would charge a bit more.
I just had my boiler serviced and GSC at the same time. It cost £150 for both done at the same time. This was for a property in Guildford Surrey. The property only has one gas boiler but would be charged an additional £25 for each other gas device in the property.
Hope that helps..
