Hi guys I’m just wanting buildings insurance for my property. Do I need to get landlord insurance or can I just continue to use my normal buildings insurance as I only pay £85 a year for that (have been living in the property myself but moving out soon) but I just got a quote for landlord insurance from direct line and it is £375! Crazy increase. I’m renting to my son so haven’t added any additional rentals protection this is just buildings insurance in case of fire etc. Thanks
Just for context I'm finding on average insurance companies are quoting around £100 for every 100k rebuild cost. So if you have 350k rebuild cost they are typically charging £350.
If you take out buildings now you are still in the property so that's legit to do so. If your son rents it later then that's a family member and you could ask when things change if that changes the premium but don't do it until needed.
Thank you
