Can I "buy out" landlord's old furniture?

I'm not satisfied with the state of the furniture in the flat I moved into. Obviously, this is something I should have noticed and negotiated before moving in, but being constructive and realistic, I'm trying to assess my options in a way that's mutually beneficial to both the property and me.

One of the options I'm considering is "buying out" the landlord's furniture. I pay X, and in exchange, the arrangement becomes as if the flat came unfurnished. Then, I have the freedom to remove, replace, or keep the furniture in the flat.

Does this make sense? Is this proposal uncommon or something you've encountered before? Is there any alternative proposal that would make more sense? The letting agency is so slow, so if I need to ask/negotiate to replace or remove each individual piece of furniture, this could be painful for all people involved.

Thanks!

Start by asking if they can remove it and you will provide your own and take it after. If this fails, you can offer your option. Is there much you want to change?

I'd be happy with the option you propose. The main issue here is the middleman. I'm still dealing with very basic things with the lettings agency that they still haven't solved (for example, it's been almost 1 month since I moved in and they still haven't sent the inventory; another example, they agreed to remove a piece of furniture and they haven't yet), so I don't want to overwhelm them with more advanced stuff.

It's like using a very old computer. You don't want to open a new window if it's still loading the first one.

Ideally, I would want to get replace the bed and the sofa (happy to leave them in the flat when I move), and then remove (without replacement) an old small table and a couple old lamps that have no use.

Have you received the deposit certificate within 30 days of paying the deposit?

If you're happy to leave them in the flat the landlord is very likely to accept, as long as they have fireproof tags

I have received it, yes.

I agree it’s likely the landlord would accept, but the agency is quite slow. They routinely ghost my emails.

They dont have any legal obligation to provide you with their inventory unless that’s stipulated in the contract. Did you take your own pictures and inventory when you received keys?
