Just had a tempting offer from a prospective tenant....

So, a very nice Albanian gentleman messaged me asking if he could rent my property in return for cash payments each month, PLUS an additional £4000 every 3 months, in cash.

This was after telling me he wants a 'business house', can provide fake ID, will make sure nobody notices the increase in electricity usage and will of course return the property to the immaculate condition it's currently in.

The emojis of little plant pots sweetened the offer....

A free ventilation and plumbing system when he leaves as well?

Well yes, plus the next tenants will have free electricity for life too.

You forgot the free lighting, free medium, free plastic tubs, free window foil.

Don't forget the free extra window in the front door when it's cut open.

I mean … at least he isn’t BSing you.

Loads of them rent a place, don’t tell the landlord and you only find out when the door goes in

His openness was the surprise!

Yeah. I mean at least OP is getting a cut. Could probably negotiate it upwards.

And then rely on a dealer to keep their word?

I'm good mate.

Cost them more if you picked up the phone.

And dealers are well known for taking that kid of thing lying down.

Next time you speak to a dealer, threaten them with the police to get what you want and see what happens. Be sure to make sure they know you aren't joking as well.

Funny you say that - the first offer was £3k.

That’s an awesome offer and I would literally bite his hand off. Not many awesome tenants around so don’t miss out.

This is joke post. Clearly don’t engage

Don’t do it. Growfarms will wreck your house completely. Have had to quote /advise on a couple of these after they left and we were looking at major renos 20k+. The last sentence is bullshit. No intention of returning prop to previous state. They will be long gone before you know they have moved on. (Basically once they can’t store any more hemp byproduct in the house)

I'd rather think the illegality and overwhelming choice of tenants would immediately compel the owner to decline the offer. Without going into anecdotes.

dont know about OP monthly rent, but given the every 3 months bonus is accurate, OP would only need to rent it to his nice chap for a minimum of 2 years to cover all the potential lost !

Holes in ceilings, walls, ripped out cupboards, and fitted wardrobes to provide them extra growing room. Eternal stinky carpets and house ugh.

Don't suppose he needs a pied-à-terre in downtown Beirut central Portsmouth, by any chance?

If it has a door, some rooms and an electricity supply, I think he'd snatch your hand off.

Mind you, I'd insist on £5k as he jumped from 3 to 4 pretty damn quick.

I'd be asking the police if they want to share the offer, I'm very public spirited like this (plus I can't stand the smell of weed).

If you're serious, don't do it, especially after posting on the internet.

Don't. All the extra money you've earned will go towards renovating the house after they leave.

Your house will be a wreck afterwards.

Happened to my mates dad, he works offshore, rented out one of his flats, nice area, nice tennat on paper, 3 months later police and council stepped in and border force, removed a few girl's that were trafficked. The neighbours complained about the Ladies of the night and constant noise and social issues, the flat was at least left in good condition and he managed to rent out after, but I think it had like a 90 day anti social cufew on it where nobody was allowed in which made things hard for the owner.

Reply

It takes 2-3 months to get a crop, apparently. That's 4 harvests in a year.

Money up front for the entire term, plus a £10k deposit.
