If it’s in that much disrepair, it may be worth contacting you council private rental team.
When I googled it, it said I should send a letter to the landlord and see if he replies first. The whole situation is really getting me down and effecting my mental health. No matter what I do it never looks any better and I’m super clean as I have OCD. It needs a lot of structural work. It’s like a fixer upper you’d buy tbh
You should do both. Write to the landlord listing everything that needs attending to, with photos. Contact the local authority and ask if you can send the same document to them.
Give the landlord 14 days to respond with a written action plan and in the meantime he must organise the shower repairs which represent a severe hazard.
Thank you for your reply it was very informative. I have asked the landlord via text for either a physical address or an email address to send them a letter and they still haven’t replied. Do you know what I would do in this situation if they don’t acknowledge my request or if they refuse to give me an address?
You can do a Land Registry (Title Register) check for £7.00.

You need to contact environmental health and tell them everything, ask them to come and inspect the property themselves because frankly it does not sound like it's a fit state for habitation!
You really need to leave this place. It’s unworkable and won’t get better.
That said you need to check if you have all the correct documents for the rental. Epc, gas safety and protection of deposit.
Speak to shelter as well for advice. You have a slum lord both past and present.
I know, I am trying to move at the moment. He’s got somebody coming out to do the gas safety check tomorrow which is a bit puzzling as he cannot seem to do any repairs but can get this sorted. I didn’t pay a deposit when I moved in she didn’t ask and I didn’t think much of it as it was in a state then but I was desperate at the time. I will speak to them ive applied for the property pool with the local authority and im waiting for banding for that. I would ideally like to move it’s getting me down so much as ive tried to do what I can and I’ve spent thousands upon thousands but I don’t own it and there’s just too much structural work etc that needs to be done.
Thank you for your reply.
Thing is gas safety is a legal requirement hence the urgency.
When did the last one expire ? Ok on the deposit side.
I still recommend a chat with shelter
Just a little thing. Landlord references don't matter much these days. Landlords can say whatever they like and a common thing is to give a good reference to a bad tenent to get rid of them and make them someone else's problem. What's far more important is affordability via bank statements and credit checks.
As for all the work I'm sorry you are in this position however it sounds like alot of work needs doing. I mean alot. I'm in trade and I'm booked up till end of September going into October solid (most weekends as well). For the most part I'm not even going out to give quotes and most decent trades will be the same. Also it sounds like they would need several different trades people for different jobs. Trying to organise this is going to be a long process and could take best part of 6 months to a year to sort everything. It's also going to cost alot of money. Thousands by the sounds of things. Alot of landlords are asset rich cash poor from my experience. They may have to sort out a line of credit before they can even consider doing anything. As others have said get onto council environmental health they will inspect and issue an improvement notice if needed (this also protects you from eviction so worth having if you want to stay). However even improvement notices aren't a magic bullet as they still need someone to do the work. As long as they can show they are at least trying to get things done it will continue to be an issue but will get done eventually just as per time frame above probably not anywhere near as quick as you want. Sorry
