Updating post from Reddit.
Is anyone a member of the National Residential Landlords Association? If so, have you found the services they provide to be worth the fee?
Cheers
I get discounts on the certificates I have to do via it, I did get a discount on my accountant when I got started. It helps with the landlord licence I need to get for at least one of my projects in showing I am taking things seriously, it actually asks if I have an NRLA sub.
You get a discount if your code is used by someone else, I think I posted mine on reddit some time ago and got notification my renewal is going to be cheaper as someone used it. I assume its a reciprocal benefit so maybe see if someone will share theirs with you.
The benefits do not break in real terms, but they are useful, and I might read the publication that comes with it occasionally.
It's worth it for the template documents in my opinion alone, especialy as the regulation changes come in. We're all going to have to refresh our documents.
It's good to know they have a helpline to call, if lost on something.
They are terrible at sucessfully lobbying but they seem to try.
I'm willing to believe it might be useful for stuff I haven't so far needed, but for me no, it's not been much use and I keep thinking of cancelling. I did try their advice forums but wasn't impressed.
They've got an advice help line with real, experienced landlords on the other end. This can be useful for talking through issues with a legal or judgement angle if you are new to the game.
This was the reason I kept my membership going, and experienced my first section 8 eviction which the insurance would not pay out for. This meant I had to do all legals myself and they basically acted as my advisor for paperwork, forms and what to expect. Well worth the fee in my opinion. They are also highlighting just how fudged the rental market is with the exodus of private landlords and the struggle for tenants to rent without being priced out and facing competition. The tax is also deductible so it is a little cheaper than you think when you file your tax return.
yes. they are a lobby group promoting your interests to government and the advice line has been invaluable.
been a member for over 20 years
Yes - good legal back up, and source of information/ support if needed. Supports the profession as a whole, and raises profile/reputation (private landlord here)
