Updating post from Reddit.
Hi everyone, I'm just looking for some advice on the next steps, as I see a lot of different information online regarding this.
My partner & I moved out of our property on the 30th of March, 2025. We cleaned the place top-to-bottom, and all work that needed doing was done by myself. Hell, we even painted some of the walls fresh due to some scuff marks and did it properly too, no smears or marks from a bad paint job & the same colour as the original walls when we arrived (to confirm, we never changed the colours of the walls, just repainted them the same colour.)
Since then, our housing agency has had a fight and a half ever getting into contact with him, and he only shows up when he wants to collect something (like the keys) but is obviously ignoring calls from the housing company when I'm wanting to get the deposit back.
The Inventory report has been completed, and I would be understanding if a small deduction took place due to items listed, but he seems to be ignoring all contact and I'm beginning to get frustrated. I'm not a very argumentative/combative person at heart, and I would like your opinions on what my next steps should be please? This is a first for me honestly.
To confirm, we have our deposit protected through MyDeposit.
Contact MyDeposit and put in for a full return on deposit, stop chasing him and get on with your life.
Yes, this is the way. It forces him to either do something or the whole deposit gets returned
I'll do this now, cheers!
On top of this, you’ll need to submit evidence. If you don’t do this then the dispute will close and back to square 1. Just submit the tenancy agreement (should have timeline for dep release in a clause) and submit a screenshot of written request for deposit release. Additionally, submit a word document with the timeline of everything including the fact that there’s been no response.
Hey! I've done this last night including everything you've said, which is good as it means I'm ticking all the right boxes haha! Thank you kindly!
This is what I would recommend too ..
There is a fixed a time to return the deposit .. which I think has been exceeded so contact them (My Deposit) direct ..
Was the landlord or the agent listed on the deposit certificate ..
Request it back from the deposit scheme. If the landlord and agent haven’t proposed any deductions, you should get a full refund fairly quickly
Housing company? Why is a third party handling your deposit?
You want to contact the Deposit Scheme (MyDeposit) that holds your deposit and resolve any issues with them to request a full refund. It's scenarios like this that explain their existence.
The landlord should intiate dialogue regarding any claims within 10 days.
It appears this has not taken place. If the agent is administrating the deposit they can release it as this time has lapsed. If the landlord is then you contact the organisation which you should have been told about at the beginning of your tenancy.
Howdy!
That is quite vital information, thank you! I don't suppose you know where that information can be found please? I haven't seen that with the group I'm with (Your Move) anywhere and that's been part of the confusion admittedly. If that's UK law then that'll be wonderful to bring up!
Again, thank you and I hope I'm not being cheeky asking for a source 😅
I miss clicked me thinks😬
I can likely find this out, it does appear they use my deposits. Which branch of yourmove?
I see you confirm it's mydeposits call them and explain they will face palm and sort it out.
Would still be curious to know the branch 😅
30th of April is in 15 days
Christ, that's an error on my part haha! Meant to say March, it's been a long few weeks, cheers for the catch
Gotcha, hope you get your deposit back soon! I think you can reach out to Shelter or your Ombudsman for advice
Brill, I'll do these as well! Thank you!
Which branch of Your Move?
