Do landlords hate renting out to people under 25?

Having major issues getting a place to rent even tho I make enough to cover the costs. It’s really disheartening because I literally want to spend my money but they don’t want to take me. I’m also a good renter and always paid on time so I don’t understand why every place I view messes me around.

The single 25 year old or the on the face of it settled professional couple.

I suppose it's not a hard decision rightly or wrongly.

It's hard for everyone at the moment - there's a shortage no matter who you are.

Its often who you are competing with.

Double income is more secure.

Are you in a secure salaried job?

Have you looked at places rented out via agencies? They tend to be able to select good tenants better than landlords.

No, I don’t really care as long as you can pay the rent. Mostly it comes down to who you are competing against and if they earn more. Landlord’s is more likely to go with the tenants who earn the most.

Are they messing you around, or are you just throwing your hat in the ring with everyone else?

If you have a choice between:

  • single 25 year old on 30k

  • single 25 year old on 40k

  • young couple in late 20s/early 30s both on around 35k

  • older single parent on 50k

  • Older single person on 50k

  • couple in their 40s with 1 kid and a combined income of 70k

Who are you picking?

Obviously some of it is personal preference, the exact property etc. but the single 25 year olds aren't winning any prizes there.

And when there's a shortage, the less desirable candidates will always struggle the most.

Ultimately landlords have no way of knowing if you've always paid your rent, so they just have to play the odds.
