Looking to refinance

Do you guys pay for a mortgage advisor? Just been quoted nearly £1000, I’m only pulling out about 40k so I ideally want to keep my costs as low as possible.

We have a long term advisor (20 years or so), his current fees are £1K but we generally negotiate a discount based on our long-term relationship (about 25%).

Many people ask why we pay such high fees? We've never had a mortgage fall through, the service is personallised, he does all the administration and he knows where to go for each situation (BTL, 2nd home, residential) - I know others can claim to offer that but when you get the service you need, every time, it just feels like value for money.

That seems quite a high fees. If you’d want, I could refer a close friend that’s based in Hornchurch. Don’t think they should charge at all if you go through a reference.

We do not pay for the mortgage advisor, they get a kick-back from the provider. Our provider Santander already slaps on a high 'arrangement fee' – £1750 this time round for a two year fix.
