Driveway Issues

In the process of buying a rental property, where the driveway is far too small to fit any car. This wouldn't be a issue but there is no off street parking to allow the car to be parked. Unfortunately, the previous owner had just paid for a full resin drive, path to back garden, and a patio to be installed before she passed away and changing this would be no small cost.

Can anyone thing of any ways to extend this driveway without spending a fortune, don't mind removing the side wall or pillar, see photos attached

It already has a dropped curb

If there is free on-street parking I wouldn’t bother, I don’t think having a driveway is that important when renting a property. If not then you could remove the flower bed and bush on the left of pics 1 and 2, looks like that would create enough space for a small car. Or you could remove the pillar and widen the whole thing but this would be quite expensive and I doubt you’d get much, if any, extra on the rent.

Unfortunately, it is only a single lane road to the property and parking is not permitted as no other cars will be able to pass. Otherwise it wouldn’t be my greatest concern. The only option is to extend it but struggling to come up with a cost effective solution

Hmm in that case I’d bite bullet and make a big driveway space, it will cost but in this case it’s an investment in the future of the property. Personally I would use a shingle surface, better for drainage and if it’s deep enough it looks quite pleasant and weeds won’t grow through it.

I would cut out the grenery on the left and add more resin with some kind of pattern maybe to make it blend better.

32years experience as groundworker: yeah. get a local digger & driver guy, 1.5t machine needed. he will remove the wall etc, dig down about 6inches. and youll get a grab lorry to remove everything (not the green waste though) then 5inches of mot compacted (you can lay a geotextile layer on the ground first but i wouldnt bother for this application) then add 1 inch of pea shingle. leaving the resin thats already done. this avoids hassles of surface water as per Suds law 2008 too. in all approx cost if i were in your area would be £1300 plus vat.

if you need to drop the kerb that needs a specific contractor with roadworks ticket and that is generally £1500-2100

you wont get a more complete experienced answer than this one
