Tenant has sent photos showing the garden fence blown down in the storm. Let's say it costs £1500 to replace. Would you claim on your insurance? I've never claimed on my landlord insurance and I wonder how much they will jack the premium up next year if I make a claim for this.
Unlikely it’ll be covered as most policies exclude fences from storm damage. Check your wording.
Need way more info. How long is the fence? What type is the fence? £1500 seems a lot. Most fences are done in parts so would think only part needs fixing? I always have this issue with a house with the slot in fence panels. But they are like £20-30 each and just slot in/out. So only a few break a time and they get replaced.
Exactly, if the fence blew away, my guess it was a wooden panel, which you can get cheap in b&m. I just got a 3x6 panel from them last week because of the wind. £25.
Look through your policy, fences are not usually covered from storm damage.
Even LV have it on their main LL insurance page on whats not covered:

I would replace the fence with concrete posts with gravel board at the bottom and a slideable fence panels.
Fences and outbuildings not normally covered.
Depends if fence is covered with your insurance provider.
Many I have read do not.
As others have said, likely excluded from cover but also if the fence is more than 10 years old they'll likely say its wear and tear and not insured damage as well.
Replacing the fences every 10-15 years is part of cost of property ownership - maybe a bit longer if you spring for concrete posts, but less if you get your dodgy mate Dave to do the install.
Claim. I would.
Perhaps I’m petty, but I pay a lot out in insurance and use it when needed. Other people say ‘don’t claim, because your premiums will go up’ but then why have it if you don’t claim??
Because every other insurance then asks you if you have had a claim in the last 5 years, then suddenly they are unable to quote you online.
Ring them for a quote?
My own new fence was a casualty in the storm and after checking my (enhanced) policy, it's not covered.
Can't see LL insurance being any different....
Depends on the fence. Is it salvageable?
Not really. It was cheaply installed by the previous owner. But irrespective of whether it's salvageable, my question is about whether it would bite me later if I made a £1500 claim on my landlord insurance.
It works like all insurance. You make a claim, it goes up.
I’ve had same issue
